Household goods like humidifiers, fans, and blenders have steady demand, and the gap between the Chinese factory price and the Korean retail price is wide, so the margins look good. But once you place the order, the spot beginner sellers get most tangled up is "how many certifications does this appliance need?" Clothing or sundries have one or two gates, but anything that runs on electricity stacks up separate gates โ electrical safety, EMC, wireless, energy efficiency โ layer upon layer. And even among small appliances, the combination of gates changes with the item. A fan and a blender go through different procedures, and a single wireless feature can balloon your paperwork.
Today's point is a single sentence: a small appliance clears not one certification but a combination of gates, and that combination differs by item. So the question to ask before ordering isn't "I just get KC, right?" โ it's "which of electrical safety, EMC, wireless, and energy efficiency does this product hit?" One more thing: KC electrical safety usually demands test samples and time. You get samples from the factory, put them into a Korean testing body, and it takes a while for results to come out โ so set the order schedule and the certification schedule together, or your sales date slips. Push certification off as a later problem and bring the goods in first, and you can end up unable to sell, with stock piling up in the warehouse.
3. Radio Conformity Assessment โ EMC Applies Even Without Wireless
After electrical safety, the gate that most often catches small appliances is the radio conformity assessment. The thing beginner sellers most often get wrong here is thinking "no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so radio certification doesn't apply" โ and that's half right, half wrong.
The radio conformity assessment looks at two lanes. One is electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) โ whether the electromagnetic waves a product emits don't interfere with other devices, and whether it withstands external waves too. Appliances with a motor or electronic circuit can be subject to this EMC side even without any wireless function. The other is wireless: if it has a function that sends and receives radio waves, like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, a heavier conformity assessment follows as a wireless device. Here's the takeaway. Even without a wireless function, the EMC side can apply, and adding wireless makes one more gate heavier. 4. Energy-Efficiency Grade โ Why Fans and Refrigerators Get Caught
Clearing electrical safety and EMC isn't the end. Some small appliances have to pass another gate โ the energy-efficiency grade.
This scheme grades products by efficiency and requires a label, so the more energy a product uses, the more its efficiency is graded for consumers to read at a glance. Items the government designates as efficiency-managed products must be tested, marked with a 1โ5 grade, and filed accordingly. Among small and household appliances, designated items like fans and electric refrigerators can fall here. Conversely, items not designated โ like blenders, electric kettles, and hair dryers โ are generally unrelated to this grade label.
Two practice points. One: confirm first whether your item is a designated efficiency-managed product. If it's designated, the grade label and filing become a precondition for sale, so schedule it separately from electrical safety and EMC. Two: the grade becomes a marketing point. Even for the same fan, power consumption and efficiency grade feed into detail-page competitiveness, so it's worth pinning down at the sourcing stage which grade a model produces. 6. Tariffs, Origin & Voltage โ Split on Numbers and Labels

The tariff is set by the item's HS code. A certified product must carry the KC mark along with rating info like rated voltage, power consumption, manufacturer, and importer, plus country-of-origin and Korean labeling. Skip the labeling and, even after clearance, your sales can get stuck. For small and household appliances, Guangdong (ๅนฟไธ) is representative. Shunde (้กบๅพท) in Foshan in particular is a hub known for kitchen and home appliances like rice cookers, blenders, and electric kettles, while the ShenzhenโDongguan belt has a thick supply chain for smart and wireless appliances with electronic circuits. On top of that, Ningbo (ๅฎๆณข) and Cixi (ๆ ๆบช) in Zhejiang are known as small-appliance and electrical-product hubs, good for casting a wide net on fans and small household appliances. Online, the common flow is to search factories by item on 1688, shortlist candidates, and narrow them down through on-site visits or inspection. Since the clusters are so distinct, narrowing the sourcing region from the start by item raises the quality of your shortlist. Above all, with appliances it's important to confirm early whether the factory has certification experience. A factory with a track record of Korean KC or European CE cooperates smoothly on test data, while one that has only served the domestic market takes longer to handle certification.
What to confirm on the sample without fail
Small appliances are a category where problems surface in safety and in operation. It looks fine in photos, but power it on and run it for a few days and the weak points show. Confirm the following at the sample stage.
